About this tool
Image Compressor shrinks your photos and graphics so they load faster on websites, fit inside email attachment limits, and take up less storage. You control the trade-off: lower the quality slider for dramatic savings, or cap the maximum dimension to resize oversized photos while keeping them sharp.
Everything runs locally in your browser using the canvas API — your images are never uploaded to a server, so private photos stay private. The tool shows before-and-after file sizes so you can see exactly how much you saved before downloading.
How to use
- Upload an image (JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF).
- Choose an output format and drag the quality slider to set the compression level.
- Optionally set a maximum width or height to downscale large images.
- Compare the before/after sizes in the preview, then download the compressed file.
Frequently asked questions
JPEG and WebP compression is lossy, so very low quality settings will introduce visible artifacts. Around 80% quality is usually indistinguishable from the original while cutting file size dramatically. PNG output is lossless regardless of the quality slider.
Files up to 25 MB are accepted. Very large photos are best handled by also setting a max dimension — a 6000px photo rarely needs to stay that big for web use.
No. All processing happens locally in your browser with the canvas API. Your files never leave your device.
WebP gives the smallest files for photos and is supported by all modern browsers. JPEG is the safest universal choice. PNG is best for graphics with sharp edges or transparency, but produces larger files.
