About this tool
RGB is machine-friendly; HSL is human-friendly. If you have channel values from a picker or an image sampler and want to reason about the color — "make it a bit less saturated" — converting to HSL is the fastest path.
The converter validates your channels, shows the live color, and breaks out hue, saturation, and lightness individually.
How to use
- Enter the red, green, and blue channels (0–255).
- Read the hsl() CSS value and component breakdown.
- Click Copy to grab it.
Frequently asked questions
Hue is 0–360 degrees, while saturation and lightness are 0–100%. The converter rounds each to a whole number.
A pure gray — hue becomes irrelevant. What does 0% or 100% lightness mean? Black and white respectively, regardless of hue.
The formulas are reversible, but this tool only goes RGB → HSL. Use the color picker page for quick cross-format lookups.
