About this tool
Character limits are everywhere: 160 for an SMS segment, 280 for a post, 60 for a meta title, 150 for a social bio. Guessing whether your text fits wastes time and risks awkward truncation. This character counter shows your total with spaces, without spaces, and alongside word and line counts.
Because it updates live, you can trim a sentence and immediately see whether you are under the limit. Like every Toolskit utility, it works entirely in your browser — your text is never sent anywhere.
How to use
- Type or paste your text into the input area.
- Read the live character counts, with and without spaces.
- Edit your text until it fits the limit you are targeting.
- Copy or download the result when you are done.
Frequently asked questions
The "with spaces" count includes every space, tab, and line break; the "without spaces" count strips all whitespace first. Some platforms (like certain ad networks) count spaces, others do not, so both are shown.
Most emojis are counted as two characters because they are stored as surrogate pairs in JavaScript. If a platform counts them as one, treat the total as a safe upper bound.
No hard limit. The counter handles anything from a single tweet to a full manuscript pasted from your clipboard.
