About this tool
Sentence count is the raw material of readability analysis: average sentence length, sentences per paragraph, and pacing all start here. Editors use it to spot walls of unbroken prose; students use it to sanity-check essay structure. This tool detects sentence boundaries from ., !, and ? marks and reports the total live.
It also shows average words per sentence, which is a quick proxy for how easy your writing is to read. Shorter averages generally read better on screens.
How to use

Frequently asked questions
It splits on sentence-ending punctuation (. ! ?) followed by whitespace or the end of the text. Abbreviations like "Mr." or "e.g." can occasionally be miscounted, which is a known limitation of simple detection.

It works with any text that uses . ! or ? as sentence terminators. Languages with different punctuation conventions may not split perfectly.
