About this tool
Morse code turns letters into dots and dashes — still used in aviation, amateur radio, and as a fun cipher. This translator works both directions: type plain text to get Morse, or paste Morse to decode it back. It auto-detects which direction you need based on your input.
Letters, digits, and common punctuation are all supported, with standard ITU timing spacing: single spaces between letters, slashes between words.
How to use
- Type text or paste Morse code into the input box.
- The tool auto-detects the direction and converts live.
- Use the swap button to force a specific direction.
- Copy or download the converted result.
Frequently asked questions
If your input contains only dots, dashes, slashes, and spaces, it is treated as Morse and decoded. Anything else is treated as text and encoded. You can override this with the direction toggle.
Letters are separated by single spaces and words by " / " (space-slash-space), following the standard convention. When decoding, the same spacing is expected.
A–Z, 0–9, and common punctuation (. , ? ' ! / ( ) & : ; = + - _ " $ @). Unsupported characters are skipped during encoding.
This tool focuses on text conversion. For audio, each dot is traditionally one time unit and each dash three — many free players online can sonify the output.
