About this tool
Referencing "line 14" beats quoting a whole paragraph when you are reviewing code, editing a manuscript, or discussing a list. This tool prefixes every line with its number, with options for the starting number, the separator (like ". " or ") "), and zero-padding for alignment.
Numbered output is plain text, so it pastes cleanly into documents, emails, and tickets without any special formatting.
How to use
- Paste your text — one item per line — into the input box.
- Set the starting number, separator, and optional zero-padding.
- Preview the numbered lines live.
- Copy or download the result.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Set any starting number, which is useful when you are numbering a continuation of an existing list.
Common presets like "1. ", "1) ", and "1: " are included, and you can type any custom separator you prefer.
By default blank lines are skipped so numbering stays meaningful; you can enable numbering them if you need a strict one-number-per-line output.
